As parents at every start of term or the school year, we do everything we can to prepare our children for school. For most of us though we forget to prepare our child for one of the most common things that happen at school – Bullying.
Talking to your child about bullying
Are you having crucial conversations with your children, around the topic of bullying? For most parents bullying at school takes them completely by surprise but for most children, it is a daily reality whether they are being bullied or taking part in bullying another child. The rates of depression and suicide as a result of bullying have increased dramatically.
It is important to have these conversations with our children before something happens so that they understand the dangers and also feel like there is something they can do when they find themselves bullied or when they see another child being bullied.
We as a family found that this video available on the JW.Org is very helpful, in driving the understanding, creating an opportunity for conversation, and helping you understand what your child thinks about the subject. I hope that you will find it useful, check out other resources for teaching your children on the site.

I hate that we have to do this, but it is reality, for sure.

September 15, 2016 at 1:32 pmOh this makes me so sad, but it’s a very helpful post. Unfortunately bullying is so common, I hate that my children could end up experiencing this.

November 8, 2016 at 10:41 pmI agree, I think its so important to talk to our children about this topic so that they understand it and can hopefully avoid it happening to them, or them inadvertedly becoming one! Great video to link to, very useful. Thanks for sharing it on #MarvMondays. Great to have you join us 🙂 Emily
