Dr Seus says: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. And De Seuss is an absolute expert in such important matters
This has been true for me, it made me think of the many possibilities books have brought into my life. Growing up in a small semi rural township in KwaZulu-Natal the reading allowed me to expand my horizons, to see beyond the hard life and poverty to the possibilities that are out there. Through stories told by others in their writing, I learned important life lessons, I learned about carving your own place in the world, I learned how to stand up to bullies, how to be independent and think differently, how to not limit myself to just the life I know.
So reading is an amazing gift to give to one’s own children and to the children in our communities.
So please support reading initiatives, click HERE for some ideas. Ennrol your children in the library, and your sisters kids, and your cousins children..etc, give already read books to charity organisations, to mothers bringing up their kids alone and in need of books, please go and do something.
That way someone else can go to parts unknown in their mind …and one day can go and experience those places personally.
