Supporting someone on their first day

My son (TheHeir) started Grade 3 this year, it’s big milestone because he is nearly in higher elementary.  One of the lovely things his principal did was introduce the Grade & kids (by name) to the Grade 1.  They were told this is someone they can ask when they get lost or are uncertain or just need someone to talk to.  I imagined if I was one of those Grade 1 and someone had done that on my first day I would have felt quite different about going to school for the first (A scary prospect as I was only 4 years old at the time).

This made me think of all the times in life when someone would have appreciated my availing myself to be their crutch, support and contact on the first day of something.. and I realised that is something I can definitely change this year.. just be there for someone on their first of life, treatment, day 1 of school or work, going to the shop for the first time anything, just be there.

Of course someone far cleverer than I had already driven home the message about this sand that would be kid president.  Below is a link to his Letter to a Person on their first day here video. ENJOY

Very sweet introducing the Gr 1’s to Gr 3’s. Wouldn’t have worked with my son today (also just started Gr 3). He didn’t come to the gate at the end of school and when it was locked I had to go into the school to look for him, found him wandering around in tears because he was lost 🙁 Seems the poor kid has his mother’s sense of direction

Wow what an amazing and inspirational video.
I think being there for someone is the most valuable thing you can do.
