Emotions & Senses brought to life, with the Glade® Sensory Experience
Join Glade in the multisensory journey of revisiting the powerful emotions and memories envoked the sense of smell. Remember that amazing holiday in India when you pass the spice shops? Scents are a powerful trigger to our emotions. Take a look at their campaign #FeelGlade
Scents and our emotions
We are amazing creatures born with the capability to experience so many facets of our lives through our various senses. Personal a certain smell can transport me into a different time and place, and I even remember people by the way they smell, which makes for interesting conversation when I get into the lift at work, and I immediately can tell by the subtle scent that that one of my work friends was in the lift. A scent can help you create an experience for yourself, your family and your friends – and this is something I love to play around with. That is why I was so excited when I was approached to take part in Glade® ‘s new campaign to inspire people to experience the power that scents have in triggering emotions, evoking memories and forming emotional attachments. Scent can really change your experience of place or an event in time.
My Glade® Scent Gallery Experience
On the weekend of the 6-7th May at THE SHED in Fox Street, Jhb – Glade hosted the inspirational The Glade® Scent Gallery, to provide an opportunity for people to experience the multisensory journey using the 4 different spaces infused with Glade® Scents (check out 2 of the scents below) – I really enjoyed exploring each room – and analysing what memories, feelings did each scent invokes in me.
Glade® asked that I share my scent and memory connection experience, and this was certainly triggered at The Glade ® Scent Gallery.
The scent of Freshness and the feeling of home
As a working mom, I really appreciate being able to come home to clean and inviting home after a long day; this is the smell that invokes the feeling of home, contentment, freshness, newness for me. We recently moved into a new house and this one of the steps to make the new house feel like home. Creating a certain scent memory also assisted my children to be able to bond with the space and to sleep well at night in a new house. A quick spritz of the Glade® Clean Linen Scent around the house, on couch pillows, and the bed linen – was just the right amount of scent to influence how we as a family experienced and settled into our new place – we created a sense newness, freshness which invoked feelings of familiarity, of home and of it being our own unique space. A Tip for the busy working mom – we all love to make our homes comfortable for both us, friends and family is to spritz the scent in your linen closets so your towels have that same scent, on the bed linen in your guest room just before your visitors arrive to create a welcoming, clean & fresh space for your guest, this is something I do all the time as I those who come to my house to feel at home and walk into a fresh smelling space.
The memory of Relaxation with Ocean Escape scent
In one of the Sensory rooms at The Glade® Scent Gallery, showcased the scent and scene of the beach, as a former Durbanite who also had the pleasure to live in Cape Town, I have a strong pull to the ocean. My husband and I have travelled to the coast on a whim for the weekend, simple because I walked in from work and told him I miss the smell of the ocean and I need to relax and unwind. Just the site and smell of the ocean immediately allows me to relax and think better especially during busy or trying times. It is a definite antidote to the fast busy life we live. Being able to walk into Ocean Escape® room at the Scent Gallery and be moved to think about my next seaside holiday was nothing short of a little magical. I am amazed always about how really strong our senses are.
